Dr. Tad Thompson, author of the newly published Intentional Parenting: Family Discipleship by Design makes an observation about the lack of parent-child discipleship in today's families:
"I have served on a church staff as a student pastor, as an associate pastor with oversight of adult education, and now as a lead pastor. At every stage of my . . . experience in minstry, the disconnect between parents and children with respect to the discipleship process has become increasingly evident. The hard fact is that fathers and mothers are not taking on the reponsibility to disciple their own children, and churches are doing very little, if anything, to challenge this reality."
I've served in various roles of youth and discipleship for the past 20 years and have noticed the same trend.
What about you? What are you seeing in your church? Are parents discipling their children or are children's and youth ministries left with the bulk of the discpleship load? If you have encouraging stories about parents discipling their own kids, or if you are discouraged by the lack of parental or adult involvement in discipling the next generation, tell us about your observations in the comments section.
