If you read nothing else today, please read this piece by Brett McCracken. At a point where social media fatigue -- or maybe just cultural fatigue in general -- is starting to set in for many of us, it's just what the doctor ordered.

Good one
Great suggestion, Carol. It might just also reacquaint us with some of the old habits like reading and taking more walks.

Not so modest, Philip
Your idea is just what most of us need! Those with whom I interact on computer are far away (a couple on another continent!) so I can't do face-to-face with them. But I am feeling overwhelmed most of the time. Perhaps, we should do "rolling black-outs": I will not be available on computer this week; try me next week. ???

A modest proposal
I have a suggestion: Why not begin to practice, if not a moratirium on social media for a while ( which is unthinkable for most people), at least begin to have more face to face interaction with others? Perhaps even with those whom we disagree. It might just lead to increased civility among each other and short-circuit some of the cowarldy personal attacks and the intrinsic meanness that internet anonymity breeds.
