Conviction of Judgment (Ministering in the Spirit, 7) |
. . . here are two other aspects to the Spirit’s work in convicting us of judgment. Judgment to come. It is also the work of the Spirit to convict us of judgment in two additional ways, each of which is a form of judgment to come, concerning which the prophets especially are so outspoken. First, the Spirit reminds us – convinces us – that a day of judgment is coming and that, in that day, all our works will scrutinized by our eternal Judge before the watching eyes of all (Rom. 14:1-12).

How to Get Started (conclusion in Ministering in Your Culture) |
(Excerpted) In any field, not just in cultural evangelism, learners do these two things: they ask questions and listen. Look at the ministry of Jesus. As the crowds flocked to Him and took their places on the hillsides to hear Him speak, they came questioning and listening. The listening provoked more questions which encouraged more listening. And His joy and pleasure are not added to by our walking in the paths of righteousness, . . . Nevertheless, the Spirit Who is at work within us, to convict us of sin, righteousness, and judgment, is doing so in order that we might be willing and able to do what pleases our Father in heaven. . . . How, then, does this aspect of the Spirit’s work proceed in us?

Engage the Culture, Pastor, If You Dare: Part 1 of 3 |
(Excerpted) I live in metropolitan New Orleans. Today--January 6, 2012--marks the official end of the Christmas season and the opening of what is locally called the Carnival Season. . . . February 21 is "Mardi Gras." A new pastor moves to this city and takes over the leadership of a church. The first question some will ask is his position on Mardi Gras. It's a loaded question. Local church people are not in agreement at all on how Christians should relate to this festive culture.
