Every text of Scripture is an episode, an excerpt, in the grand narrative of redemption, which runs from cover to cover in the Bible. The preacher must situate his text both in its immediate setting, and in the larger, overarching narrative of Scripture. How do we do this in a way that brightens the text without overshadowing and obscuring it in the larger story?
